Shootie, this one was posted this morning on my War thread. I don't know if he is still in office, but what he had to say is true liberal fodder:

Statement by Congressman David E. Bonior (D-MI)
Minimum Wage Workers Deserve a Roof Over Their Heads

September 9, 1999

We hear a lot about prosperity these days.

All the new Internet millionaires.

The billion dollar mergers.

The booming stock market.

Record home sales...

But if you take a closer look, unfortunately, millions of Americans are working harder than ever just to make ends meet, especially people working for the minimum wage.

For millions of families in our country, the American dream is "Out of Reach." Thanks to Sheila Crowley, Cushing Dolbeare and the National Low Income Housing Coalition, we now have data that sheds new light on the challenges we face.

In order to meet the generally accepted standard for affordable housing... that is, to keep housing costs to 30 percent of a family's income... a mother in Michigan working at the minimum wage would have to put in 87 hours a week.

87 hours a week!

[...]

What are they working on?

A lop-sided, trillion-dollar tax cut that will explode the debt and put Social Security and Medicare at risk. They know this tax bill will never become law, but they're too busy playing politics to care.

Millions of Americans are working two jobs, just to put a roof over their heads, and the leadership of the House is playing politics.
