Re: Arafat should follow the Israeli lead on this and stop glorification of murderers, just as the Israeli do.

Do they?? Apparently, as the Goldstein story shows, Israelis are no more polite than Palestinians when it comes to condemning blind terrorism... You pretend that Israeli (mass) media and (mainstream) politicos refrain from stirring up hatred and revenge against the Palestinians, so much the better! But then tell me, Zeev, how come such a polite environment still breeds lunatics like Baruch Goldstein?? Sounds like a fly in the ointment here... But let's venture an explanation: despite its politically correct media, the Israeli mindset instills contempt and even hatred towards the Palestinians. Under a veneer of moderation and restraint (rather aimed at world public opinion) lie the most ferocious feelings.

Hence Israeli fanatics are even more disturbing than their Palestinian counterparts: they don't get assuaged by their softline media.... So my point is this: there are many ways other than flat-footed propaganda to arouse hatred among a community --schoolteaching, routine military duties, far-right rabbis, etc. Let alone racial prejudices from recent incomers (Russian Jews).

All in all, although the Palestinians' anti-Zionist propaganda may be more blatant than the Israeli "sales pitch", both nurture the same racist violence in the end...

Gus.
