Gustave, a beg to disagree with you, I doubt that the fringe extremism in Israel is even 10% of the population. DSharon would not have been voted in if Arafat did not quite stupidly turn down the best offer the Plestinian are going to be offered. Without the recent violence, by now, the Palestinian could be well on their way to not just full autonomy, but eventual statehood and full cooperation with Israel. The result of the intifada is not fear and mass despair, but more determination and, unfortunately, the extremization of a larger part of the population. Goldstein was a singular event in the last fifty years, personally, I think he "lost it" and if hew did not die, he would have been committed. The fact of the matter remains that the Israeli Government is doing as much as possible to assure that guy does not reach any false martyr status. If Arafat did half as much in that direction, the Palestinian nation would be much better off.
