If Apple were to port to x86, they would probably the only argument that anyone has in supporting the Mac over a PC, that is the ease of setup etc.

What is never mentioned is that the ease of setup is most likely the result of a lack of choice in terms of peripherals, and the control of most such peripherals by a single manufacturer.

If one were to add the myriad of possible add-ons available to the PCx86, then Apple would experience all the same problams that occationally pop-up on the PC front.

Which of the above scenarios is best - The market has obviously voted for choice and competition (thereby lower price) over a monopolistic closed architecture.
