<In my opinion, if AMD had launched 1 GHz product in December instead of 1.2 GHz product in June, no Tier 1 OEM would have adopted it until at least March.>

Why should AMD have launched 1 GHZ product in Decemeber when Thunderbird was already released at 1.2GHz two months before that?

<Yes, a Tier 1 OEM win at introduction is never assumable in a new product area for AMD. I think AMD needs about 25% market share before that expectation will change.>

This is pretty ridiculous and not based on any facts. Going all the way back to 386s AMD has been able to secure at least one Tier-1 OEM for a major microprocessor product launch. And at no point in time in recent memory AMD had a 25% market share.

<As an engineer working with program managers on complex projects, I think I know as much about the latter two as you. Marketing has nothing to do with delay.>

I have managed many programs in my life and with that experience I can tell you that Marketing is usually the prime culprit in projects getting delayed.

<It appears you believe that the MP program was delayed because of program management issues. >

When a program slips it is because of combination of Marketing/engineering/program management. In AMD's case, I can see that the marketing team is weak and that to me explains a lot.

<Do you have any evidence that AMD's engineers were jerked around by their managers, or given insufficient resources or that the project was improperly planned?>

Cancellation of the original MP chipset with SDR and cancellation of Mustang are some very good examples.
