Carl: wondering whether brokers will "patronize" HOMS after they get rid of their stock is tilting at windmills.

I gather there is some idea around here that a website displaying virtually all of the broker listings across the U.S. began with the HOMS IPO. In reality, the real estate industry wanted and needed and funded the development of such a website long before it ever turned into an IPO---it was developed out of need, not greed.

I was advertising myself and my listings on Realtor.com/HOMS four years ago, and I only stopped doing so when I stopped actively listing and selling property----that was two years ago! So HOMS has been around for awhile even before it was publicly traded.

If I decide to start selling again, I'll go right back to having my own web page on Realtor.com/HOMESTORE and to having my name, phone number and direct email link on all my listings....HOMS will get my money....I'll gladly pay. I can attribute a certain percentage of my income to being there on the Internet. I also can be assured I will NOT get much business if I don't.....this need to be on the Internet is more clear today than it was two years ago.

I don't care whether you or anyone else buys the stock.....I'm just trying to help clear up some of the weird stuff that is being thrown around here about real estate in general, about HOMS-the-company, and what it does and for whom and under what circumstances.

If you are in the real estate business today, you have NO CHOICE but to have your listings on the "main" real estate website if you want to stay in business.

It doesn't matter whether HOMS gives anyone any stock or not (and I can assure you the broker I worked for couldn't care less about stock ----he was a billionaire long before anyone ever heard of the Internet)----.....you gotta be on the website if you want to participate in the listing and sales of real estate. I hope this helps increase understanding just a little.
