hi will

i was just about to log off and go enjoy some away-from-computer time when i saw your post. and what with all of the complimentary things you had to say, i am very pleased that i took another minute to read one more post! thanks for the kind words. <g3>

re, "already running Norton Internet Security with its firewall. Would ZoneAlarm be redundant, and would they be stepping all over each other's toes?"

imo and from my own personal experience, the answers to your questions are no and no. i run norton personal firewall (npf), which as you probably know, is the same firewall as norton internet security (nis) but without the av program and the extra stuff, and i run zonealarm and also blackice defender. while some might feel that there is a redundancy in this, i have seen first-hand where one firewall picks up the slack of the others and catches intrusion attempts missed by the others. also, if one is down for any reason, i have the others. long story short, the two you have mentioned are best, and they work quite well together. i set all three at their highest and tightest setting and it all works well. like you, i also run win2000 on a pentiumIII 500mhz machine.

funny you should mention nis, because i just came into possession of a copy of norton internet security family edition 2001 (nisfe v3.0), and i will be uninstalling npf and putting nisfe on my systems. i look forward to it.

as i said, i was about to shut down, so i'll sign off by saying that you should feel comfortable about putting the two programs together... and you can always show up here asking questions (or sharing tips!) as the case may be.

good luck, and let us know what you decide.

:)
