The UK based iOra, has successfully completed trials of its Mobile Intranet software over the the GSM network, Orange's HSCSD upgrade. iOra's Mobile Intranet maintains Intranet content on laptops, giving offline access with high-speed updates. As a result laptop users need to dial-in less frequently, and automatically receive updates in a fraction of the time it would take to download new files. During the trials, this resulted in a 20-fold reduction in download times and 20-fold cost saving on the HSCSD service costs. Martin Wood, Senior Product Manager - Mobile Data Access at Orange commented, "HSCSD is aimed at the corporate data market, where mobile access to corporate data is critical. iOra Mobile Intranet is an exciting solution - it maximizes the potential of available bandwidth." According to recent research conducted by Arthur Andersen, 66% of organizations currently use laptops for remote access to corporate content, but cited lack of bandwidth, poor reliability of service, and security concerns as key constraints for successful use of mobile data. <<
