I bet you don't choose what to eat for breakfast by what you are told to eat via TV advertising... I sure don't.

But... Many do just that and it must work... why would a box of cereal have a cost structure of advertising, shipping and the cardboard container all higher then the total cost of what is in the box?

Even better example. Look at what advertising does for "The Real Thing"! They get a majority of the population to pay huge prices for cans of carmel colored sugar (or diet) water. Some of us are too smart for them and buy the Safeway generic equivalent but we'd still do better just drinking the water and forget the crap they put in it.

I think many of us analytical types just don't see advertising as it doesn't work that well on us, but the power of it is there and I sort of just assume that this is part of managements' job to pay people to decide the right amount and type of advertising. MY JOB is to watch the stock price to see if they are successful.
