I started to respond to your note a couple of hours ago just when a bolt of thunder sounded too close to continue. Been offline for a couple hours while the storm passed.

I haven't been real regular about defrag until just recently. I let Maintenance Wizard run a couple times a week now and that seems to help. Plus I run ScanDisk even more often than that.

I just rebooted prior to coming here and my resorces free reads 60% on boot. Not bad, but I still think it's too low given the fact that the machine isn't doing anything but idling.

I seem to recall from right after I bot this computer that the HP Pavilion is somewhat of a resource hog in itself. I never did get HP to verify that, so it may or may not be true. Anyway, things are a little better lately.
