I never for the life of me never knew what we were doing in South Korea or South Vietnam, or why we would risk thermonuclear war over Taiwan
Funny.. the French and British were thinking the same thing when Hitler annexed Austria and Czechoslovakia, and Japan was devouring Manchuria...
"Why should we fight for them?"...
Don't you recall reading the fancy speeches by FDR containing beautiful and reassuring statements like this..... "I give you one more assurance. I have said this before, but I shall say it again and again and again: Your boys are not going to be sent into any foreign wars." FDR-1940
It kind of begs the question why we courted war with Japan by launching an economic embargo against them if we weren't planning on having to fight them some day in future....
International law is only binding as the enforcement that backs it up. Asking why the US should risk war over Taiwan is tantamount to asking why a police force should risk their lives taking on organized crime.
U.S. support is absolutely the worst thing for Israel, since it has turned her into a vassal state.
Hmmm... I wonder if you feel the same way about the tremendous economic aid we ALSO give the Egytians.
For example, Egypt receives over $2 Billion in US foreign aid, making it second only to Israel.
They have a $83 Billion economy according to our buddies over at Foggy Bottom:
state.gov
Thus, over 2% of their total GDP consists of US aid.
Now Israel also had a similar GDP of around $98 Billion:
state.gov
They've received $3 Billion a year in direct US Aid, accounting for some 3% of their GDP.
But taking in account the hostility shown to Israel by its Arab neighbors, it's probably justifiable to give them an extra billion over what we give the Egyptians.
So if you cut off all foreign aid to Israel, will you do the same for Egypt?
