"This has been a very difficult period for us," he said. "Agriculture has been
suffering from very low prices. Worldwide demand has been reduced for food and
feed." While he is beginning to see some turnaround, Andreas noted that "corn
and soybean prices are at 10-year lows.

As the world's largest cocoa processor, ADM is a major player in the economy
of Ivory Coast -- a West African nation recently hit by widespread allegations of
the use of child slavery on its cocoa plantations.

However, he pointed out that it is "not a very simple or straightforward problem.
There are some 800,000 farmers in the Ivory Coast producing about 40 percent
of the world's cocoa."
