poor Europeans, does JJ Cramer own Juniper stock? Europe: The Silent Killer of Tech By James J. Cramer 6/8/01 9:19 AM ET Darn Europe. If you want to know what is happening right here, right now with these tech companies, the problems are in Europe. Sun Micro (SUNW:Nasdaq - news - boards), it's all about Europe. Juniper (JNPR:Nasdaq - news - boards) says Europe's gotten ugly. Just said it on the conference call. Sure, there is an "absorption cycle" problem as equipment buyers halt purchases for now, but in Europe, business is just plain bad, absorption or not. Juniper Said Things Were Great. They Aren't It is one of those markets that people never really game well. When it is good, Wall Street doesn't pay attention. When it is bad, people just say, "Oh, darned Europe's bad again." Is this slowdown in Europe different? I think this may be the worst one I can recall because it is happening at the same time as a plunge in the euro. Not only do the Europeans not have any money to spend, but the ones that do are doing so in a currency that goes down every day. Every analyst and portfolio manager is going to be all over Juniper's Europe worries because they come on the heels of Sun's Europe worries. Look for a round of estimate cuts from companies that do a ton of business in Europe. List coming later today.
