Rob,
I know you are quite familiar with Ebay. Note the change in their enforcement of "hyperlinks" to ones web page. It seems to me they are getting a bit pushy. Please see the email to me today and my reply:
"Date: Sun, 10 Jun 2001 06:56:47 -0700 (PDT) From: David Jewelers <sales@davidjewelers.net> | Block Address | Add to Address Book Subject: Re: LP NOTICE: eBay Educational Notice - Links and Credits To: safeharbor@ebay.com
Courtland,
Thank you for the notice but I definitely need clarification. I was aware of the enforcements of the policy of links to a web site and removed over the last two weeks all hyper links to my web site. I did leave within my descriptions and about me the URL to my web site but one would have to copy and paste the URL or manually type it in their browser to go to my web site. I believe showing we are a real business and also have real physical locations adds credibility to the buyer and that has been our goal.
Are you stating I cannot let the buyers on Ebay be aware that I have a web site that explains the history (background) of my business and shows we are not a "fly by night" firm? I am leaving for a week on a business trip tomorrow AM and would like to get this issue resolved today.
By the way, my web site has an active link to Ebay and my web site averages 6-7 thousand page views monthly during the non holiday season. You may also note the merchandise on Ebay is not on my Web Site.
Please explain further about the URL that is not active.
Thank you.

Dear davidjewelers (sales@davidjewelers.net),
We appreciate that you chose eBay to list your items. We would like to take this opportunity to let you know that on May 10th, 2001, we have revised our Links and Credits policy in regards to the listing of your items.
This notice is being sent to you as a notification of these changes, and to let you know that enforcement of this policy began May 31st, 2001.
Please note that for the first two weeks, we will only be issuing educational notices, understanding that many members are making adjustments to their listing templates. Beginning June 14th, we will issue a warning on the first violation of the policy. Subsequent listings which do not conform with the policy may be ended early.
In reviewing your listings, for example:
Gents Gold Tone Pulsar Watch NR Item # 1605783329
we found that they would not be within our revised policy guidelines. The listings contain the following information in the description:
1. a link to your website: Website: www.davidjewelers.com
Our revised policy concerning allowed Links and Credits on the View Item page is as follows:
"eBay allows sellers to place the following types of links in your item's description:
-One link to a page that further describes the item being sold in that listing. -One link to your email address that opens an email client for potential bidders to ask questions about the item in that listing. -Links to photos of the item for sale. -Links to your eBay or Half.com listings. -One link to your About Me page (in addition to the About Me icon already provided by eBay). -Links that provide credits to third parties.
If you have a logo for any of these links, it may be no greater than 88x33 pixels. (Exception - links to your eBay or Half.com listings).
Linking to web sites that offer to trade, sell or purchase goods or services, or including links for any purpose other than those listed above is not allowed. Prohibited links include, but are not limited to:
-Links to web pages that offer to trade, sell or purchase goods or services outside of eBay -Links to web sites or pages offering merchandise is not permitted on eBay -Links to sites that solicit eBay User Ids or passwords from bidders -Links that encourage bidders to place their eBay bids through a site other than eBay"
Please note that we have also updated the Third Party Credit and About Me page linking guidelines, in addition to the above View Item page policies. For your convenience we have included the link to these updated policies, as well as an FAQ page that will better assist you in the changes that have been made:
pages.ebay.com
pages.ebay.com
Again, as a courtesy to our members, we will be issuing educational notices through June 14th, 2001. We encourage you to review all of your current listings and auction templates to determine if they are in compliance with the revised Links and Credits guidelines.
We thank you for using eBay and we wish you many successful transactions in the future.
Regards,
Courtland (safeharbor@ebay.com)
