NEW YORK (Dow Jones News) -- Crude oil and products futures ended mostly higher at the New York Mercantile Exchange Friday, recovering from a steep sell-off Wednesday amid surprise across-the-board inventory
builds. The rise was helped by trader jitters about damage from Tropical Storm Allison and an Iraqi export ban, analysts said. Crude oil futures closed at the day's high, up 58 cents at $28.33 a barrel. After falling steeply Wednesday on unexpected builds in crude oil inventories, prices are recovering slowly but are still trading in a range.

Rain from Tropical Depression Allison was expected to continue in parts of Texas, Louisiana and Mississippi this weekend. Storm and flood-related problems hit refineries in the Gulf Coast Thursday and continued to support
gasoline futures Friday.

Gasoline futures fell .02 cent to close at 88.83 cents a gallon. Heating oil futures ended at 76.65 cents a gallon, up .73 cent, while natural gas rose 1.32 cents to $3.922 per 1,000 cubic feet.

In London, Brent crude from the North Sea rose 94 cents to close at $29.44 a barrel in trading on the International Petroleum Exchange.
