mr mark, re >never had a problem by letting norton disk doctor automatically repair any errors it finds< Same here, but not so for WinDoctor. Some of the problems found I fix myself, like "missing file" when there is an orphaned shortcut. WinDoctor retrieves the file from the trash to fix this. My own solution is to delete the shortcut. :) Takes about the same amount of time.
