PCCW joins call-to-mainland fray 2001-06-09 Terms and Conditions A new wave of luring more users to make calls to mainland is storming Hong Kong, as Pacific Century Cyber Works (PCCW) announced Thursday to begin a short-term free call promotion. Users of PCCW will be able to make one-hour free calls in July if they call to mainland for half an hour this month, the company said. The move came after New T&T and City Telecom brought down charges for calls to mainland by 75 percent to HK$0.47 (US$ 6 cents) per minute last week, triggering a series of price-cutting among local competitors. PCCW's charges for calls to mainland stay highest among five local telecom firms, at HK$1.99 (US 24 cents) per minute.
