Rose, I stand corrected and thank you for helping me get my facts straight. Whenever I’ve inquired about writing naked puts in my account, the brokerage firms I spoke with always said “it’s against IRS rules.” I assumed they were telling me the truth. Apparently, they were simply unknowledgable, or purposely misleading. I prefer to believe they were unknowledgeable.

Since you appear to have some expertise in this area, why do brokers consider retirement accounts unmarginable? Why would they want, even for “common sense” reasons, to restrict the way I manage my account? I’m not trying to be argumentative; I really don’t understand this thinking. Thank you for your continued assistance.

Joe
