I may have missed it, but I'm not sure that Brando has been mentioned yet on this thread? His best screen work was done in the early 50's. One of my favorites which is rarely mentioned and seems to be difficult to find in video stores (that I've looked in) is Viva Zapata. Good acting (Anthony Quinn)...powerful story. Saw it as a kid in a theater...the ending left me stunned.
