Hi, elmat - Thanks for the post. Let's hope that the 3G mess gets sorted out with a minimum of bloodshed. A lot of the players are now recognizing the damage that was done.

I think it was Bernard Levy who first alerted us to the consequences of the ruinous spectrum prices.

In addition to that, many have questioned whether the user necessarily wants (or will pay for, a la Ray's Joe SixPack)) all that gee-whiz functionality on a cell phone - as opposed to a notebook, PDA, or some device allowing an experience more like one's desktop.

So this additional consequence - market fragmentation - adds to the burden of making the networks pay.

Not to mention the absence of the still-undiscovered "killer app" for 3G.

When I first posted on this thread, I believed. I thought 3G was going to be. Slowly, I began to realize that the naysayers were making some very good points. I think the ruinous auction prices torpedoed the ship. It hasn't sunk, but the remainder of the voyage will be difficult.

Just another telecosm misjudgement? We discussed them here...
