ADSL has it's place in the evolution of data communications but will probably be relinquished similar to other dinosaurs such as ISDN. Is ISDN still being sold and used? Yes, and it might well be for years to come. That's because there is existing infrastructure and usage behind it. But from technical and economic standpoint it can easily be argued that ISDN is only acceptable when no other alternatives are available. xDSL will go the same way over time. I would certainly not call it "dead" but it isn't going to be much of a growth industry for longer than five more years. The more important thing that investors must concern themselves with over the next several quarters is not whether xDSL or FWBA, cable or even FTTH will be the media of choice for the last mile but whether the telecomm and ISP industry will have the financial strength and stomach to spend money on any of them and at what level.
