Interesting you should say that, since I see the total opposite in God's revealing of His essential nature through Jesus The Christ. Justice and mercy though in contradiction, were reconciled, through His death and resurrection.

Try pulling yourself up by your own bootstraps some time, it can't be done. It's any easier to "reach moral maturity" on our own. God's standard is moral perfection. However, that which is impossible with man is possible with God. That is why even faith must be a gift, so that salvation is all of God.
