While I think that we all have responsibility for playing our hand, as you said, we are not self- sufficient. Whether you think you are dependent upon God's providence or good luck, we all have to depend on opportunity to a large extent to move forward and overcome. Apart from that, we are firmly enmeshed in social relations of mutual dependency. Our parents raise us, our siblings sometimes fight for us, our teachers discipline and inspire, our physicians help us to mend, we benefit from the sacrifices of soldiers in foreign lands, we lean on our spouses, and so on. To think that one is self- sufficient, and not born beholden, is mistaken........
