The article isn't even correct. TSM is already at 130nm. And Via is 150nm, so saying chips are only at 180nm is incorrect.

What are the gate critical dimensions for the TSM and VIA processes? I'm betting that 0.13 micron for TSM is essentially similar to Intel and/or AMD's 0.18 micron processes.

My point was IBM is working at a single atom layer.

Do you understand the significance of fabricating a working 0.02 micron transistor? I'm betting no... Just because you're "working at a single atom layer" doesn't mean that the technical achievement is any greater.
