So could it be that the book officially meant not to be an attach only on the NEP, but also on the Jews? plenty of people involved in the book are Jews. The unparalel genre of untranslatable sotilities (laugh through the tears) ridiculing the unthinkable absurdity of the Soviet Regime and Soviet reality is still most popular and outright hilarious ...In fact anything Russian is not even readable without it... Still brilliant people lost their lifes for this....(Bulgakov-most prominent among them) If Ostap Bender (and his creators) were writing in 1936 they would not be joking... Nevertheless the genre spreads from Zochenko and Babel to Bulgakov...than of course is a giant hiatus..and who would joke dead or in Magadan?.....that is of course until Breznev era when the genre really took off again...with numerous names and why not..the absurdity gotten even more absurd....except Ostap would be emigrating in 70's...<ggg> and not to Rio de Janeiro...<g>
