MYSTIC, CONNECTICUT - JUNE 12, 2001 -- The National Football League Seattle Seahawks have signed on as a "launch partner" with USA Video Interactive (OTCBB: USVO; CDNX: US) and will be the first customer for Zmail™, which debuts at Streaming Media West in Long Beach, California, later this month. A specially prepared Seahawks video will be integrated into Zmail™ and highlighted at the show.
The Seahawks plan to utilize Zmail™ for a campaign scheduled in July. The Seahawks also are considering enhancing their weekly emails - "Hawk Mail" - to Seahawks fans by adding streaming video that could include player interviews and other features. "Hawk Mail" has features on players, team information, discounts on team-related merchandise, apparel and more.
"We are looking forward to using Zmail to communicate with an ever-growing fan base that extends throughout the world," said Mike Flood, Vice President of Information Systems for the Seattle Seahawks. "Knowing how much our fans appreciate team related video emails, we intend to stay on the leading edge of Internet video technology. Combining video delivery with the data collection features of Zmail, make this a doubly interesting proposition."
Zmail™ is the first product to utilize USVO's core technology, StreamHQ™, a powerful and uniquely functional Internet streaming rich media delivery architecture designed by USVO. Zmail™ draws upon several of the features of StreamHQ™ including encoding, streaming, data collection and analysis, and custom web development. StreamHQ™ encompasses state-of-the art technology from industry leaders EMC, Cisco and Oracle along with USVO's proprietary content and data management software. Installed at an Exodus Internet Data Center, StreamHQ™ is a highly reliable, scalable and versatile Internet infrastructure with features that are unsurpassed in the industry.
USVO will showcase Zmail™, featuring the Seahawks, in demonstrations at Streaming Media West, June 20 to 22, and at the company's Annual Meeting on June 28. It also will be available on the USVO website by the end of the month. The Seahawks have supplied USVO with a video specially created for their fans for use in their Zmail™. USVO custom-designed a web page to host and display the video along with key links to Seahawks' information and merchandise.
"Video emails, and particularly our unique streaming Zmail™, are powerful marketing tools and also greatly enhance a team's communications with its fans or a business's communications with its customers," said Edwin Molina, President and CEO of USVO. "There is intense competition out there for professional sports teams so we are especially pleased and proud to have the Seahawks as our first Zmail™ client. They help provide a strong and persuasive example of the vitality and versatility of the Zmail™ service."
About the Seattle Seahawks The Seattle Seahawks were the National Football League's 1999 AFC West Champions and are owned by Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen. The Seahawks celebrated their 25th anniversary with the onset of the 2000 season, and plan to move into a new stadium for the 2002 season.
The Seahawks open their third season under Head Coach Mike Holmgren at Cleveland on September 9. In addition to AFC West rivals, the Seahawks will face four NFC East opponents, including the Dallas Cowboys who come to Seattle for the first time since 1983. In his first season with the Seahawks, Holmgren helped guide the team into their first postseason since 1988, breaking a 10-year playoff drought. The 9-7 regular season record by the 1999 Seahawks was the best mark since posting a similar record in 1990. By leading the Seahawks into the postseason, he became just the second coach in team history to take the Seahawks to the playoffs, and just the third coach in NFL history to guide a team to at least seven straight postseasons, joining Tom Landry (nine years, and eight years) and Chuck Noll (eight years).
