I am not sure that the founders main desire was to set up a just society. Their fear of a tyrannical king or ruler was uppermost in their minds. That is why the Constitution was mostly written to limit the role of the government. As to a "just society" there was much talk about only allowing citizens who owned property the right to vote. Of course slaves were not people, but that is another story.
