No doubt I did, but I also see religion not as the main culprit but as a main culprit in wars, atrocities, and intolerance. I cite as examples the recent histories of Ireland, Bosnia, Rwanda, the Middle East, the Philippines, Europe in the WWII era, etc. Racism, I think, is another main contributor.

Yes, there are probably thousands of religious organizations that do good work and I have a great deal of respect for and financially support such organizations. But I don't think their numbers constitute a large segment of the 95% of people who say they believe in a god. It cannot be denied that many religious groups in this country hate other religious, ethnic, or racial groups in this country. |
