You have add both JNPR and NOK's warning together. Both have been perceived to be able to navigate through the storm, now they are getting hit. Your are right, NOK warnings is not the sole reason for todays drop, but it's the added fuel to the burn that was started by JNPR.

It was amazing how the Juniper warning shook investors' confidence. I guess it just demonstrates how fragile that confidence really was. It also explains why Greenspan had not slowed down the pace of interest rate cuts.

After JNPR, I see IBM and MSFT are other big ones that can knock down the market but I do not expect a warning from those two. I don't expect much from Compaq at all so a warning from them may not be any surprise.
It is the market leaders that could send a shock to the market, imho.

What other stocks are there that have been able to stay strong even in the middle of a major slowdown...I mean business staying strong.
I can only think of Cien as the remaining high profile name but they recently confirmed guidance. I guess they differ from JNPR and even NOK in that they may have switching technology that appears to be in demand which also sets them apart from the Nortels or Sycamores etc..

Nasdaq is setting up for a strong close but I don't want to jinx it.<g>

BTW--Speaking of JNPR, it is now hitting highs of the day. Speculating on what that means; real buying or short covering.
