SB, That is a hard call. The ultrorthodox jews who barricade streets in Israel on saturdays have a different view of their actions than those who drive(or try to) on that day.

In a way you cannot let that group or any other group rule lest you get an abuse of the minority by the majority. In Israel this minority does the abusing and gets control of certain areas on Saturday and all others suffer.

Who will watch the watchers, as they say.
No religious group can be trusted not to place their beliefs ahead of those of other faiths.

A neutral state that has zero religion is probably the best bet and it would not allow ant group to infrignge upon others.
In israel it would stop the street barricades, but let the orthodox run their life in their own homes and synagogs, I expect.

of course the orthodox want control of all israel and would soon have israel defeated by the arabs as they would not join the military or defend israel aggainst attack(strange but true). So the exercise of their beliefs would lead to their extinction.

the rest of israel will not stand for this and so they keep a good and strong defence. In 100 years or les the orthodox will out number the rest and if they do not change will bring about the end of israel in this manner.
Of course they may well assimilate and lose their way as there is a large problem with runaway boys and girls who have seen Paree and will not go back to thee farm. So that erosive effect may well save Israel from them.
