The motivation of liberals on the global warming issue is that they really WANT some kind of natural disaster to distract from the fact that their viewpoint is generally rejected, and they can't win any elections they don't fix. The motivation of the pseudo-scientists is far simpler: money. We spend $2 BILLION/year studying this non-existent "problem", and for what? So the left-wing media can attack Bush on it? So the scientists won't have to earn a living? That makes the left happy all around. But now they want to destroy the American economy so they can pretend to "deal" with this phantom "problem". It is the perfect issue to crush them on, by just making the FIRST legitimate study ever on the issue. With that in hand, Bush can score a major victory against these criminal/traitors by simply saying, "I told you Kyoto was dead, and that's what it is, DEAD."
