Let's do some math. MSFT's 2000 sales were roughly $24 billion. If the MSFT install base of PCs is around 500 million (probably a conservative number) then that works out to $48 per PC last year, or $4 per month.

I think you'll be hard pressed to work up much in the way of public outcry over those numbers. I gladly pay ten times that per month just for Internet access and so do millions of others.
