>>Stak, you only quoted half of my argument. Go back and read the rest of it. (But stop before the statement about Microsoft. <G>)<<
Developers should be compensated for their efforts. Both from an economic and moral view, but the old habits die hard. Actually paying for software isn't a fully accepted concept yet.

Forced paying for software will truly change the rules for the small guys. Nothing like a little cash in the pocket to get the brain juices flowing. At the same time I think many innovations weren't neccesarily driven by profit motives. Strange to say??

In the next 6 months we'll see a dramatic change in the way the internet evolves. A pay per play or subscription model will be the next step and it'll take a large company to pull off the move. Probably Microsoft is the one that can do it. (Yahoo?)

I wonder tho if most of the revenue will be in the top 10 companies coffers and not the small guys? Interesting times coming up after the X-box intro.

One thing I don't really see software making big demands on the processor for some time even if innovation runs supreme. Two of the most influential companies have no desire for cpu intensive apps.

Macromedia makes it their passion to shrink file sizes for web use. .swf (small web file)
Microsoft too, with .Net benefits from having files that will download or stream quickly over the net. Huge 50-100 MEG files that could bog down a cpu aren't likely to appear in the near future.

BTW why the heck are you rooting for the software guys?!? <ggg>

PS great teaser >>Some of those new ideas may even require the use of multi-gigahertz processors which will be here sooner than we all realize. <<
