Solution Provides ''Global Bridge'' in International Networks
MORRISVILLE, N.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 13, 2001--Tekelec (Nasdaq: TKLC - news) today announced the availability of its ``global bridge'' application, which provides the network signaling and protocol conversion essential to the rapid deployment of packet-telephony networks in international markets.

Tekelec's application simplifies global deployments by eliminating the network boundaries created by country-specific protocol variants. The global bridge application delivers signaling system 7 (SS7) over Internet protocol (IP) signaling, integrated services digital network user part (ISUP) conversion, and ANSI-ITU gateway functionality.

Tekelec's application includes its IP7 Secure Gateway(TM) and VXi Media Gateway Controller(TM) (MGC). The IP7 Secure Gateway provides the signaling link between voice and packet networks. It enables networks with differing protocols to interoperate by normalizing ISUP country variants to ETSI V3. Tekelec's signaling gateway communicates with the VXi MGCs via the standardized protocol. Tekelec's softswitch supports E1 and E3 voice trunk interfaces to multi-vendor media gateways and provides call control and access to application servers across international networks. It delivers a variety of applications for global markets, including voice-over-IP and ATM, packet tandem, and Internet offload.

``The successful implementation of packet telephony on a global scale rests on interoperability between various countries using an efficient, distributed network architecture,'' commented Paul Miller, Tekelec's vice president of Packet Telephony. ``Our unique solution allows one signaling gateway to support multiple media gateway controllers in various countries. Software updates are executed at the signaling gateway level, eliminating the need to upgrade every softswitch in the network. The solution provides our customers with the competitive advantage of quick, cost-effective market entry in any country.'' Tekelec plans to support ISUP protocol versions for numerous countries as well as Q.767 for gateway applications.

Miller added, ``Our `global bridge' application provides complete global geographic transparency. The result is a reliable, simplified infrastructure for the cost-efficient delivery of voice, data, and next-generation services on an international scale. Our solution easily scales to meet growing demands as global service providers expand into new countries and add new enhanced IP-based services such as unified messaging, video conferencing, and Internet service.''
