Or an alternate scenario CB--

If you're an employer and you need to fire a nurse, then fire the pregnant nurse. She's not going to be there for a period of time while on maternity leave anyway. Her maternity leave could be costly to the employer and might cause scheduling problems. It would be damn near impossible to fire her while on maternity leave as you'd open yourself up to all kinds of liability. If you do it before she delivers maybe you can replace her a cheaper alternative rather than have her job left open awaiting her return and budgeted at a higher wage.

This kind of crap happens with pregnant women all the time. Less frequently than in the past, but it still happens. Nursing homes are famous for it.

Now if you're the pregnant recently fired unemployed nurse you've got about a snowball's chance in hell you'll get hired anywhere. Employers are going to look at you as nothing but a time bomb.
