That was my impression. QCOM has to make synchronous and asynchronous modes compatible in Europe. Another law of physics that has to be broken - Jacob's said we would see something soon about synchronous/asynchronous WCDMA. That will make NOK scratch their heads.

QCOM is hell bent on making their technology work within the inefficient architecture proposed by Europe for 3G to insulate themselves from competition. Europe has a long tradition of making inferior bizzare standards for technology and products designed to keep US companies from competing in the EU.
