Record Attendance Expected at Mechanical Dynamics' 'Smarter to Market(TM)' User Conference June 19-20 in Novi, Michigan

June 12, 2001 14:20

ANN ARBOR, Mich., June 12 /PRNewswire/ -- More than 200 engineers and designers from automotive, aerospace, and general machinery manufacturers around the country are expected to converge in Novi, Mich., June 19-20 for the 2001 North American User Conference sponsored by Mechanical Dynamics, Inc. (Nasdaq: MDII), the leading provider of software and services for the global functional virtual prototyping market.

Engineers from companies such as Audi, BF Goodrich, Ford Motor Company, General Dynamics, General Motors, Lockheed Martin, Navistar, Omniquip-Textron, and Visteon will deliver technical presentations detailing how Mechanical Dynamics' ADAMS(R) and Dynamic Designer virtual prototyping software is being used to deliver more innovative product designs, enable collaborative product development, and reduce risk in the product development process.

"This is the premier event for engineers who are using functional virtual prototyping to significantly improve the efficiency and effectiveness of product development throughout a variety of industries," said Robert R. Ryan, president of Mechanical Dynamics. "Their presentations validate the very real impact this technology is having on manufacturers, in terms of meeting the challenges every company faces today -- communicating and collaborating among diverse global teams to get to market fastest with the best product possible, while cutting time and cost from the process. We look forward to welcoming them and hearing these success stories."

Following an evening reception on Monday, June 18, the conference opens on June 19 with remarks from Ryan and Michael E. Korybalski, Mechanical Dynamics' chairman and chief executive officer. Dr. David Cole, director of the Center for Automotive Research at ERIM International and a well-known expert on the automotive industry, will deliver the conference keynote speech, "Engineering in the Fast Lane." A press briefing with Mechanical Dynamics' executive team and David Cole will be held after the opening session.

The technical papers are presented in several tracks, focusing on automotive, automotive durability, aircraft and defense, and general applications, such as web-based collaboration, molding machines, forklifts, and biomechanics. A special University Program track Wednesday morning will explore how ADAMS software and virtual prototyping methodologies are being incorporated in engineering training.

Along with attending the technical presentations, conference attendees can gather in Special Interest Groups (SIGs) with Mechanical Dynamics' software developers to discuss future technology direction in focused areas such as flexibility modeling, tire modeling, optimization, durability, vibration, and CAD-embedded simulation. Self-paced tutorials on ADAMS(R)/Flex, ADAMS(R)/Vibration, ADAMS(R)/Insight, and Dynamic Designer will be available on individual workstations throughout the conference hall. Special training sessions for a number of ADAMS software packages, including the new ADAMS(R)/Driveline product, are being offered June 21-22 following the conference.

Conference co-sponsors ANSYS, Dassault Systemes, Hewlett-Packard, MTS Systems Corp., SGI, and UGS will demonstrate their technology solutions at the conference's Smarter to Market Solutions Gallery. Other exhibitors include Group Lotus, IMAGINE Software, MBS Models, nCode International, trade magazines Automotive Manufacturing and Production, Desktop Engineering, and Computer-Aided Engineering, and engineering Internet portals MCADCafe.com and CADWire.net .

Mechanical Dynamics pioneered the field of mechanical system simulation with its market-leading ADAMS(R) software. Engineering teams use ADAMS to build and test functional virtual prototypes of their complex mechanical system designs. In 2000, the company reported $46.6 million in revenue, an increase of 16% over 1999 and nearly four times the industry growth rate. The company's products are the de facto standard in the automotive industry, and lead the market in aerospace, rail, and general machinery. Building on industry partnerships, strategic acquisitions, a strong product pipeline, and a dedicated team worldwide, Mechanical Dynamics has established itself as the global leader in functional virtual prototyping.
