Delphi Sharpens Focus in Key Businesses; Announces Intent to Sell Cheltenham, England Facility

FLINT, Mich., June 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Delphi Automotive Systems (NYSE: DPH) today more sharply defined its commitment to key automotive diesel businesses and announced its intent to sell its Bryce facility in Cheltenham, England, as part of the company's previously announced portfolio restructuring plan.

``This decision will allow Delphi to commit more resources to the fast- growing passenger and light-, medium- and heavy-duty automotive diesel businesses,'' said Guy C. Hachey, president, Delphi Energy & Chassis Systems. ``We remain committed to growing the automotive diesel systems business, especially in key products such as common rail diesel systems and electronic unit injectors.''

The plant, with annual sales of approximately $20 million U.S. and 216 employees, produces diesel fuel injectors for the heavy industrial engine market, which primarily targets the main power generation, marine and rail traction sectors.

``While the Bryce facility is a viable one that is comprised of a highly skilled workforce dedicated to sound manufacturing principles, it is focused on a narrowly defined part of the diesel business -- that being heavy industrial engine applications -- which simply is not our current focus,'' said Hachey.

The transaction would include all of Delphi's heavy industrial diesel business assets at the Cheltenham site, including tools, inventory, equipment and a dedicated facility.

``The Bryce facility's product line has a solid book of business and has a promising future with a buyer who will support its growth as part of a long- term strategic goal,'' Hachey said. ``As we move through this process, we are committed to sharing information with our employees, unions, shareholders and stakeholders as soon as it becomes available.''
