Dr. V,
I don't mean to be picky or seem I'm judging your comment to be a bit judgmental, but no big deal here, just a question raised with friendly intent---what does "deserve" mean? Is it like justice, or moral retribution? Is it like what one is supposed to get if he's deemed "evil" by his peers? One thing common to all humans is fallibility, and varying states of intelligence/stupidity/ ignorance, varying by genetics, education, and circumstance. Does ignorance and imprudence "deserve" punishment? The idea that If I have lost significant money by imprudent choices, I must deserve it as punishment, I can't accept. Greed has also been blamed as justification for loss as punishment.
Not looking to start a philosophical debate--I just wanted to express some ideas that came to mind.
