Alcatel takes lead in addressing the emerging "Borderless Enterprise Market” with end-to-end solutions for enterprises and carriers.
Paris, June 13, 2001 - Alcatel (Paris: CGEP.PA and NYSE: ALA) today introduced its “Borderless Enterprise Market” initiative, combining best of breed communications infrastructure with software applications, thus allowing service providers and enterprise customers to bring their networks together, transparently. The company also announced an agreement with Deutsche Telekom to supply voice-data enterprise systems to support the launch of Deutsche Telekom's new managed services offering to small-and-medium businesses. Additional details about this new service, will be covered later in a joint announcement with Deutsche Telekom.
“Alcatel is committed to supporting Enterprise customers, whose needs will be fulfilled both by service providers and indirect channels, in their transition to new technologies. The Deutsche Telekom contract is a major step in the continued development of our strategy,” said Olivier Houssin, president of Alcatel's e-Business Group.
The ubiquity of the Internet, allows small, medium and large enterprises to become “borderless” in their relationships with customers, suppliers, partners, and employees. Increasingly, for their information and communications systems needs, enterprises demand the choice between owning networks and applications, and outsourcing them. Facilitated by the deployment of open IP networks, this opens the door for enterprises and service providers to co-operate in new types of business relationships - allowing enterprises to concentrate on their core activities, while service providers can continue to deliver innovative communications and information services.
In line with these trends, Alcatel is in a unique position to provide high performance solutions to enterprises through service providers and other indirect channels. Among others, Alcatel’s solutions are comprised of our leading voice/data convergence product family Omni, our Genesys contact center applications and our Nextenso portal solutions.
"The deployment of broadband networks, facilitated by DSL and optical technologies, both in enterprise and in wide area networking, provides Alcatel with an exciting opportunity to grow our acknowledged leadership position,” Olivier Houssin said.
As part of a strong re-engineering program, Alcatel has redesigned its "go to market" strategy. Alcatel has already implemented a multi-channel sales model throughout its enterprise business. It has established relationships with Value Added Resellers (VARs) and leading System Integrators such as IBM Global Services, Accenture and SEMA to meet the needs of its customers.
In addition, Alcatel has undertaken the transformation of its internal VAR/integration business, making it a standalone entity and able to meet the needs of clients from design to implementation with support of complete solutions. As announced earlier, the sale of this organization is currently being considered.
