fyo, ?? Uh , yeah that's what I said , both companies desire and benefit from smaller web file sizes. I don't worry about decode comp, but on the encode side more processor is ALWAYS desirable. Macromedia is fanatical about small file sizes, it's interesting to hear them wax on about this issue.
They'd rather not put in features than bump up the Flash player to over 200K file size.
Yeah large file sizes from the net bog down the network much more than the CPU... and that's kinda my point.

stak: One thing I don't really see software making big demands on the processor for some time even if innovation runs supreme. Two of the most influential companies have no desire for cpu intensive apps.
Macromedia makes it their passion to shrink file sizes for web use. .swf (small web file)
Microsoft too, with .Net benefits from having files that will download or stream quickly over the net. Huge 50-100 MEG files that could bog down a cpu aren't likely to appear in the near future.

>>I disagree. Both companies benefit from shrinking file sizes. The only way to do that without sacrificing quality is through compression, which is very CPU intensive. Large file sizes don't tax the CPU much, but they do take a long time to download (thus taxing the network).<<<
