FOI Commission reviews Jovin murder files

(Hartford-AP, June 13, 2001 12:10 PM) _ The police files in the murder of a Yale student are being scrutinized by a state Freedom of Information Commission official.

The review of the New Haven police documents on the fatal stabbing of Suzanne Jovin is to decide if records should be made public.

The Hartford Courant and a high school friend of a man consider among several suspects, have filed complaints with the commission. They are seeking the release of the file and the 9-1-1 tape reporting Jovin's killing in December of 1998.

They contend New Haven Police Chief Melvin Wearing violated the Freedom of Information Act by withholding documents.
