Edit: There are also the principles which underlay the Revolution. The basic principle being the right of the people to revolt against their government under certain circumstances.

The Revolution didn't spring full-blown from the citizenry. It started with a few rebellious souls, who by words AND acts, some of them illegal, gained the support of many, though by no means all, of the citizenry to rebel.

Or are you saying that we were wrong to do so and should still be a British colony?
