The Eclipse Manufacturing Facilities Commences Production in Chicago
For immediate release, June 12, 1997, Chicago, IL: IAS Communications, Inc. (Symbol NASDAQ OTC BB IASCA) and Emergent Technologies Corporation, have launched a joint venture to manufacture the Contrawound Toroidal Helical Antenna (CTHA) in response to serious industry interest in the technology. Our joint venture company, The Eclipse Antenna Manufacturing Company (TEAM), has just received its first order from a company that is a leader in the automatic meter reading industry.
TEAM will manufacture this industrial order in its newly acquired facilities in Chicago. The customer will use the first production batch of one thousand antennas in pilot meter reading systems in a number of US areas. Our customer projects that, following the introductory period, it will require as many as one million CTHAs annually for a ten-year period; the Agreement includes options for production batches of up to 250,000 units.
This Agreement follows extensive testing of the CTHA by the customer under actual operating conditions. The customer believes that the impressive performance from such a small antenna will provide a unique competitive advantage in the marketplace. It has been agreed that the customer's name will not be released while the company exploits this advantage during the market penetration phase and its new line of remote meter reading systems.
IAS/TEAM anticipates that this is the first of many such orders, and they are completing the development of a new antenna test range to accommodate the requirements of their potential customers. This range, which will be fully operational by mid-June, is located in West Virginia in close proximity to the West Virginia University (WVU), whose Center for Industrial Research Applications (CIRA) invented the CTHA. The combination of a state-of-the-art test range near a nationally recognized research facility capable of modelling and predicting antenna performance promises quick and efficient response to customer demand.
Currently, we are conducting negotiations with four other potential customers; the new range and manufacturing capability are expected to hasten the completion of these contracts. Each of these customers represents a different application for the CTHA, thus providing an increasing number of CTH Antenna applications and an increasing customer base.
The CTHA's exceptional appeal results from its small size and flexible structure, which enable IAS's customers to offer more efficient and competitive products to their customers. Considering the market size and huge growth in demand for smart meter reading systems, this first order is an excellent start for the company in this area. The current negotiations with other clients promise similar results for other market areas.
TEAM is 50% owned by IAS Communications, Inc. and 50% by Integral Technologies. Both Companies will pay the manufacturing company the total costs plus a 30% premium for each CTHA manufactured for the customers.
The profits after the manufacturing costs will go to IAS for the World Wide Commercial applications and to Integral for Military/Government orders. IAS Communications and TEAM are negotiating and working with several other large corporations in the Wireless Communications Business to complete additional orders for the CTH Antenna.
