"A soon-to-be released study done by the Pew Internet & American Life Project found that 17 million Americans, ages 12 to 17 - or 73 percent of that population - have Internet access. And nearly three-quarters of those who are online say they use instant messaging. By comparison, another Pew survey earlier this year found that only 44 percent of adults have tried instant messaging."

Marketing people should not be allowed to quote statistics. Nearly three-quarters of 73 percent means nearly 54.75%. Maybe 50%. Compared to 44% of adults. And the 44% figure is from "earlier this year," while the 50% figure is "soon-to-be released." Rather an underwhelming comparison, isn't it? But that's just the kind of self-serving well-spun statistics we can expect from joint ventures between computer companies and TV networks.
