Technology Breakthrough from Alcatel and Myrio
Enhances Interactive TV over DSL Capabilities

Alcatel OmniSwitch/Router eases multicast traffic floods that plague
service provider networks

CALABASAS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 12, 2001-- Alcatel (NYSE: ALA -
news) announced that Myrio Corporation, a leading provider of enabling software
technology and integrated network solutions for voice, video and data services, will
use Alcatel's OmniSwitch/Router's IP multicast over ATM capability to deliver its
digital entertainment offering.

Alcatel and Myrio have collaborated to develop sophisticated Internet Protocol (IP)
multicast services on Alcatel's OmniSwitch/Router platform that enables Myrio to
deliver its digital entertainment offering over virtually any full rate layer-2 Digital
Subscriber Line Access Multiplexer (DSLAM). This feature allows
telecommunications providers to use native topologies such as Asynchronous
Transfer Mode (ATM) within their network architecture.

``Alcatel's engineers worked closely with Myrio's engineers to develop a solution that
allows switching of IP multicast in an ATM environment. Alcatel's OmniSwitch/Router
enables us to offer users capabilities that are not possible through traditional cable
offerings,'' said Mark Marinkovich, senior vice president of operations for Myrio.
``Because Myrio and Alcatel utilize IP, it was logical to work with the Alcatel Omni
family to develop a technology that will enable deployment of our services over
existing Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Lines (ADSL).''

Marinkovich added, ``This is the best solution for telephone companies that want to
leverage their existing DSL deployments and deliver broadband video. It allows our
customers to get into TV entertainment much more rapidly and in a more cost-effective
manner.''

With Myrio's enabling software technology and Alcatel's OmniSwitch/Router, an
enhanced platform was created that enables telecommunications providers to deliver
fully integrated voice, video and data services over existing DSLAMs and twisted
copper lines into the home.

As a result, telecommunications companies that deploy Myrio(TM) Interactive(TM) TV
can deliver to their subscribers digital TV, on-demand movies, music and games, and
always-on Internet access to the TV or PC. By offering these advanced broadband
offerings via DSL, broadband providers avoid costly upgrades, create new revenue
streams and accelerate the return on investment.

``Myrio is a leader in the fast-growing interactive digital entertainment industry,'' said
Tom Wilburn, Alcatel's senior vice president, North America. ``The unique capabilities
of the Omni Switch/Router enable Myrio to provide its customers --
telecommunications companies -- with more advanced and competitive next
generation multicast video services.''

In addition to the OmniSwitch/Router, Myrio uses the OmniSwitch to provide low
cost aggregation of ATM connections such as those from multiple video encoders. Myrio is also evaluating the OmniCore
family of Gigabit switches for FTTH applications.
