hey gott

re, "think I'll leave well enough alone"

ah, smart man. i tried the dun1.4 upgrade in w98se and the install asked for my windows cd. i fed it the cd, then i got a bunch of can't find the .dlls error messages. i attempted to cancel the install, but it kind of completed anyway and asked for a reboot. the reboot produced a message saying that ndiswan.vxd device file could not be found. headache.

but i found the proper ms support article that explains the prob and offers a solution....
support.microsoft.com

i'm about to try the solution now. [edit: it worked] let me point out that the dun1.4 failed upgrade has not messed me all up. fwiw, the upgrade does place an entry in the add/remove menu, and i did remove it. the above nonsense is kind of a residual prob left over from the canceled install.

i wanted to archive the fix in case anyone else encounters the error. and here's a computing.net forum page that deals with the same prob...

good call on not going for the upgrade, gottfried
