The Polaroid statement IMO relates mainly to the instant film business, not digital. However, Polaroid is also behind in digital because of its reliance on SmartMedia, and therefore on a market aimed primarily at low end digital users. The problem here is more than outmoded technology; it has to do with management objectives, which, unfortunately are aimed more at preserving executive jobs than at making a viable instant photography business. The current management is basically the same group that placed the company in a huge debt position about ten years ago to make sure that they wouldn't be acquired. They don't have to worry about that now. Art
