Hitachi Zeroes In On Data Storage

<<TOKYO (Nikkei)--Hitachi Ltd. (6501) intends to make data storage solutions a key component of its operations, the company announced Wednesday.

The company outlined plans to invest more than 200 billion yen by the end of fiscal 2002 in equipment, R&D, and mergers and acquisitions in order to position itself as a leader in the data storage field.

It also aims to increase its software development and systems engineering staff by at least 600 employees.

The company hopes to see consolidated data storage-related sales reach 400 billion yen in fiscal 2002, making it No. 2 in the global market with a 27% share.>>
