Infonet also announced the appointment of William P. Thompson as vice president for the Southeast-Asia region. Thompson will report to Larry Morgan, vice president and general manager for Infonet's Asia-Pacific region.

With Singapore as the core of the ASEAN marketplace and a regional hub for both network and telecommunication companies, Infonet Asia will provide additional support for affiliates, local clients, multinational corporations with headquarters in the region, as well as multinationals expanding and opening offices throughout the region.

With the rapid growth Infonet Asia has enjoyed in both clients and revenue, combined with the completion of phase II of the network backbone build-out, Infonet continues to enhance and demonstrate its commitment to the Asia-Pacific region.

The formation of Infonet Asia marks the fulfillment of a plan established in 1998.

``This announcement is the culmination of Infonet's investment in people, resources and the backbone that enables us to meet the global communication requirements of multinationals throughout our region,'' stated Morgan. ``We are excited about having local nationals in each of the countries within our region, as well as the technical expertise that allows us to provide real-time, in-country support. By appointing Bill Thompson as Vice President, we are also enhancing our executive presence within Asia-Pacific,'' he commented.

With both international executive management and global telecommunications experience, Thompson joins a dynamic team that has expanded sales and support activities, enjoying enormous success within the region.

``I have spent most of my life in the communications business and am excited about the vision that Infonet has for this important region. I am pleased to be part of the fastest-growing region within Infonet and to be working with key regional affiliates and Infonet sales professionals,'' Thompson declared.

Thompson comes to Infonet with extensive industry and executive management experience. He has held executive positions with MFS Network Technologies, a division of WorldCom, as well as Cylix Communications, after forging a distinguished career in sales and management with AT&T.

Thompson also was employed by Motorola/Codex where he was responsible for managing sales, marketing and technical support activity for the Eastern U.S. Thompson earned a master of science degree in management from the University of Southern California and completed postgraduate studies at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He and his family will be relocating to Singapore immediately.
